Survive any situation – Work the RIGHT way

You may find yourself in a new career, new position, or simply a new situation… but you are diving in deep end. This is both expected and exciting since you want to make an outstanding impression to your boss and to your team.

But then comes the punch; you start going in all directions, losing grip and focus; the tide is coming in and you are fighting to keep your head above water.

Besides that you are losing sleep and your patience a bit too quickly for your liking. You are starting to question yourself if you are the right person for the job. Even worse, you have the feeling your boss and your team is noticing it!

When you realize this is happening it may not be too late but you have to act fast!

At Right-Hospitality.com we offer easy solutions helping you avoid ending up in these situations; understandable and straightforward steps assisting you in spreading your energy over the right things, doing them the right way.

‘If I had only known this before’ is a remark we hear a lot that I can honestly share with you completely, knowing how I struggled through many of these situations. Until I realized it is very simple turning them around to your advantage. This is how…

            Step 1          ANALYZE THE SITUATION

At first this analysis is difficult for most of us, but you too can do this easily by placing your situations in 4 straightforward categories. This category selection in turn is determined by the required outcome; introduction, improvement, conservation or continuation.

You can identify your situation as an…

-       Introduction when a new product or service is to be launched or created.

-       Improvement in which the future outcome needs to be better than before.

-       Conservation under which business rescue missions are placed.

-       Continuation keeping current results or a booming track record in place.

Step 2          CUSTOMIZE & MATCH YOUR APPROACH

Having your situation categorized gives you a clear vision on how you actually have to approach each situation. Your activities are almost always time sensitive and can in turn be divided by placing emphasis either on learning or doing

-    Introduction mostly requires a longer and specific in-depth learning & research path. You need to do a lot of insight to create a deep horizon on your information before anything else.

-    Improvement on the other hand normally calls for less time consuming but still detailed human resource process learning. Besides that it handles mainly existing configurations and only few new issues. You will have to establish a wide horizon on your information before changing anything.

-    Conservation is always an emergency operation. You have a short window of opportunity before acting quickly and strongly.

-    Continuation is actually re-creating your success, usually by keeping a moderate but tight learning curve in which you are constantly asking yourself and your customers what causes the success in order to repeat the ‘production’ process.

Step 3          SOLVE YOUR SITUATION … THE RIGHT WAY

Knowing in what situation you are and where to focus, helps you allocate the right resources, energy and actions.

-    In an introduction situation your resources should mainly be allocated towards learning and your energy and actions should be on accumulating the necessary data and knowledge to make the introduction successful. Coach your team in using the right technology in gathering the data, either through internet or other resources; this will help you maintain a focal point and therewith control over the process.

-    During an improvement you may allocate less time towards learning and more towards doing. Decide what works and what not drafts your path to successfully guiding your team what and where to change. The most important part herein is to coach the changing process. Understand and bridge resistance by helping people overcome fears and unnecessary clinging to tradition.

-    When an improvement situation fails to deliver the right result, it is typically followed by a conservation situation. Action has to be taken really ‘fast and furious’ or the disaster is complete. Your few remaining resources should only be allocated towards prevention. Secure personal trust within your team, define and focus on what can be saved and dispose of what cannot be saved, after which you go back into an improvement situation.

-    After successful solving any of the above mentioned situations you have to start your continuation process immediately. Herewith your resources are allocated to fine tune and modify your products and services following guidance of your customers. Focus your learning what your customers consider successful and center your actions tweaking and improving your products. This may very well lead to an introduction situation…

Keep in mind that most of the time you are in several situations at the same time, yet following the first step you will effortlessly analyze and categorize each of them. After that you can customize and match your approach on each individual situation, maintain overview of them all and most of all… remain in full control.

Finally, and I guarantee this to you, by executing your plans the RIGHT way you will show results that will impress your boss and keep you hungry for more!

Until then, be authentic and do the right thing the RIGHT way.

With sunny regards & see you soon... Frits Hannenberg
